Design

Formatting

Consistent dates, alignment, and bullet style: hierarchy comes from type, not decoration.

Formatting is invisible when it's right and distracting when it's not. The goal is a page where every section follows the same rules, so nothing pulls attention for the wrong reason.

Pick one date format and use it everywhere

"Mar 2022-Present" in one job and "03/2022 - current" in the next reads as sloppy, even if every fact is correct. The same goes for how you punctuate bullets, capitalize headings, and space between sections.

Build hierarchy with weight and size, not color

Bold for your role, regular weight for the company, a slightly larger size for section headings. Two or three levels of emphasis are plenty; more than that and nothing stands out because everything does.

Do

Senior Engineer, Acme Inc. · Mar 2022-Present (bold role, regular company, one consistent date format throughout)

Don't

SENIOR ENGINEER, Acme Inc. (03/2022-Present) mixed with Backend Dev @ Globex [Jan. 2020 to Feb 2022]
