Usually omit: norms are locale-dependent, and in some markets a photo can actively hurt your chances.
Whether to include a photo is one of the few resume decisions that genuinely depends on where you're applying, not a universal rule.
Where it's the norm, and where it isn't
A photo is common, and sometimes expected, in much of continental Europe. It's uncommon in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, where it can raise unconscious-bias concerns and cause some employers to discard the resume outright rather than risk a discrimination claim.
If you do include one
Use a genuine, recent, professional headshot: plain background, business-appropriate, well-lit. A casual or outdated photo undercuts the rest of the page faster than no photo at all.
No photo for a US/UK/Canada application; a plain, professional headshot where it's customary.
A cropped vacation photo, a group picture, or a selfie, in any market.
