Think Like a Recruiter

Design for the scanner: lead with relevance and recent impact, not a chronological life story.

A recruiter screening 200 applications for one role isn't reading top to bottom; they're scanning for a reason to keep going, or a reason to stop. Write for that reality.

The first 10 seconds decide the next 2 minutes

If your most relevant experience, title, or result isn't visible without scrolling, it might never get read. Put your strongest, most role-relevant material where a scanning eye lands first: top of the page, top of each section.

Recent and relevant beats complete

A recruiter cares far more about your last five to eight years than your first job out of school. Compress or cut older, less relevant roles so the page's attention goes to what actually predicts success in this job.

Do

Lead the resume with the role and result most similar to the job you're applying for, even if it wasn't your most recent position.

Don't

List every job since college in equal detail, oldest first, regardless of relevance.
