Summary
Three or four tailored lines, not generic ones, that say who you are, what you're good at, and what role you want next.
A summary isn't a biography. It's a pitch: enough context that a recruiter reading only these lines still knows whether to keep going.
What belongs in it
- Your role/title and years of relevant experience
- Your strongest, most relevant skill area
- A signature result or two, if there's room
- What you're looking for next, when it sharpens the pitch (e.g. "moving into a lead role")
Skip the objective-statement clichés
"Hard-working team player seeking a challenging opportunity" says nothing a reader can act on. Every resume implies you're hard-working; show it with a specific instead of claiming it in the abstract.
Backend engineer with 6 years building payments infrastructure at scale; led the migration that cut processing latency 40% at Acme. Looking for a senior IC role on a small, high-ownership team.
Motivated and dedicated professional seeking a challenging position where I can utilize my skills and grow with the company.
